Producing more, organically and at a lower cost is no longer a mystery for cooperatives in Burkina Faso thanks to Agriterra's Acting Now project.

After attending the AgroEcology training course, as a part of the Acting Now project in Rwanda last year, the project team in Burkina Faso felt the need to share what they had learned by organising a training session on bio-solutions production techniques with their client, UPPAH, from 7 to 9 May. UPPAH is a cooperative of large producers who excel in production and marketing in the Hauts Bassins region. The workshop aimed to optimise the know-how of farmers in the Houet region in organic inputs production, taking into account the beneficial micro-organisms in the soil.

A total of 25 participants, made up of endogenous facilitators and producer leaders from the 13 rural communes that are members of the cooperative, took part in the workshop. The practical part of the training took place on the premises of a grassroots cooperative in Farako-Ba.

Farmers learned new techniques such as how to make improved compost using local micro-organisms, how to make liquid fertiliser, and how to make biopesticides based on garlic and ginger.

At the end of the training, participants expressed how greatly they appreciated the efforts made by Agriterra; and above all the content of the training provided to strengthen their capacity on new techniques linked to AgroEcology. The producers also highlighted the fact that these so-called “bio-solution” products are all made from local products available and affordable in their respective localities, and this will contribute not only to the adoption of AgroEcological practices but also to running the sustainability of their activities.
